Meet the SI Leaders: Spring 2025
Bio 212
Hey, my name is Parth Mulay and I am the SI leader for Anatomy. I am the first SI Leader for BIOL 212 and I started in Fall 2024. I am a third year Kinesiology major and my goal is to someday become a physical therapist. I became an SI Leader because I wanted to practice my understanding of anatomy to prepare for being a PT. I am also an intern for the Anatomy Lab and also I work as a PT aide at PRN Physical Therapy. I am from Hayward, CA up in the Bay Area where I grew up my entire life. Some of my favorite hobbies are hiking and photography, as well as volleyball. I’ve played volleyball for 10 years and I am a setter. I love playing outdoors on the sand or grass.
Chem 100
Hi, I'm Jake! I am in my second year of studying Kinesiology while being on the Pre-Med track. I am super intrigued by all things related to health! I'm from Northern California but was born in San Diego. This is my second semester as an SI Leader for Chem 100. I became an SI Leader because I enjoy helping others and wanted to improve my public speaking skills.
I remember taking Chem 100 and feeling a lot of uncertainty and nervousness. Attending SI Sessions gave me a sense of clarity and helped me stay on track with the course. I understand how hard chemistry is, so I try my best to form sessions that are engaging and educational.
Besides school, I enjoy playing ice hockey, hiking, running, and surfing. I’ve also been trying to learn how to golf. Additionally, I am the GBM Coordinator for the MEDLIFE club and the Public Relations Officer for the SDSU Ice Hockey team. I am also an Undergraduate Research Assistant for Dr. Rawlins in the ConCare Lab. I believe in all of you and can't wait to see you at my SI Sessions!
Hi I’m Claire! I’m from LA and I’m a second year Biology major. It’s my third semester as an SI Leader, and I became a leader because chemistry can be really interesting, but I know it can also be challenging. Outside of school, I love cooking, working out, and snowboarding. I recently made a copycat version of the Trader Joe's butternut squash mac and cheese and highly recommend it!
Chem 200
Hi! My name is Alexa, and I am one of the SI leaders for CHEM 200. I have been an SI leader since Spring 2024, making this my third semester in the role. I am a second-year Biochemistry major with a Math minor on the pre-medicine track. In the future, I aspire to specialize in cardiothoracic surgery and serve as an Air Force officer specializing in nuclear chemistry.
Other than being an SI leader, I also volunteer in the Emergency Room at a hospital and I am a part of a chemistry lab on campus which specializes in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance techniques and molecular dynamics of complex biomaterials. I grew up in the Philippines and Vietnam, and in my free time, I enjoy reading novels and exploring different cafes in San Diego.
I became an SI leader to deepen my understanding of chemistry for the MCAT and to build meaningful connections with my students—an experience I hope will prepare me for my future interactions with patients. I look forward to seeing you in my sessions and sharing my passion for chemistry with you!
Chem 232
Hi, my name is Hannah Broyles and I have been an SI Leader for Organic Chemistry, CHEM 232 since Fall 2024. I am a second year Biochemistry student and I hope to obtain my MD / PhD in Chemistry. I became an SI Leader to improve my instruction to students and I like to help others with their academics. Alongside SI, I am also a Resident Advisor on campus and tutor high school students in chemistry and algebra. I have lived in San Diego my whole life, and enjoy going thrifting or to the beach here, specifically Moonlight beach. My hobbies also include reading, video games, and playing various instruments. I hope to see you at a future session!
Hi everyone! My name is Noah Susskind. I was born in Iowa, however I moved to California when I was five years old. I have lived in Irvine ever since. I came to San Diego for college and am now a fourth year student. I grew up playing soccer and still try to play as much as I can. You can likely catch me playing a lot of intramural sports. I want to go to med school after I finish my undergraduate degree, although I am considering going to PA school to prevent being too stressed out. I am majoring in Kinesiology and this is going to be my first year working as an SI leader. I became an SI leader because SI had helped me in previous courses and I believe I can do the same. I am extremely excited to work with the CHEM 232 program. Organic chemistry can be an extremely difficult subject, however it can also be really interesting. It is important to use all your resources to succeed. I am hoping to provide a valuable resource and help clarify any misunderstandings within the subject matter.
Chem 432
Hello, I am a third year chemistry student. I am from San Diego, more specifically I live in Chula Vista. This is my third semester being an Supplemental Instruction Leader. I used to be an SI Leader for Chem 232, but now I SI for Chem 432. When I took Organic Chemistry, I struggled to pivot from math-focused General Chemistry to structure-focused Organic Chemistry. Since this is my third semester working with students with all backgrounds, I understand which concepts students struggle with, the exact problems students will see on Chem 432 exams, and the main topics students should study. Outside of being a student, I like to cook, play volleyball, and go to concerts. Some of my favorite concerts/festivals I have been to include EDC, Beyonce’s Renaissance Tour, and Camp Flog Gnaw. I am excited to meet all of you taking Organic Chemistry and I wish you luck with your future academic endeavors.

Outside of class, I love to play guitar, read, and listen to R&B music. Best of luck to everyone taking EE-210!
Hello everyone! My name is Manuel Galvan, and I’m a fourth-year Electrical Engineering student. I’m thrilled to be your SI Leader this semester! This is my second semester leading SI sessions for EE 210: Circuit Analysis, a class that I really enjoyed. SI played a huge role in helping me prepare for exams, and I became an SI Leader to help other students feel just as confident and prepared. I’m originally from Tijuana, but I have lived in San Diego for most of my life. Fun fact: I love both watching and playing baseball! Looking forward to a great semester with all of you.
Math 120

I also absolutely love doing my makeup, nails and feely girly. I am Mexican and a first-generation college student with Spanish being my first language. I know how challenging yet rewarding this journey can be, and I’m always here to support you. I want you all to know that I’m an open book, so feel free to ask me anything! I can’t wait to get to know you all and have a great semester together!
Hey, my name is Light Okeke and I’m a Computer Science major. I am a big sports guy and played a bunch of sports in High School. I currently play basketball for the San Diego State University Basketball Club Team and Ialso volunteer as a Scoutz Player for the Women’s Basketball Team. I’m also a Laker fan and Lebron James is my goat. I love Afrobeats, majorly because I’m Nigerian and any type of music genre that speaks to me.
I have always had a gift for making things easier for students, and SI happened to be the opportunity to express that. I’m happy to be an SI leader and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me in SI!
Hello my name is Trent. I am a first year Civil Engineering major. I am super excited to be a SI leader this semester for Math 141: Pre-Calculus! I am a commuter from Chula Vista. My goal through SI is to support you in your Precalculus journey by helping you build a strong understanding of concepts and develop your ability and confidence to solve harder problems in order for you to be successful in both precalculus and your future math courses.
Math 150
Hi everyone! My name is Meghna, and I’m one of the SI Leaders for MATH 150. I’ve been a SI Leader since Fall 2024 making this my second semester in the role.
I’m a sophomore majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics. Originally from the UAE, spent my whole life there before coming to San Diego for.
Outside of being an SI Leader, I love spending time with my friends and exploring new places. I joined the SI rogram because of my love for Math and my passion for helping others succeed. I’m excited to work with you all this semester–let’s tackle MATH 150 together!
Hey everyone! I'm Aditya, a sophomore at SDSU majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Math, and this is my 3rd semester being a Supplemental Instruction Leader for Calculus 1 (MATH 150). As a SI Leader, I’m here to help you strengthen your understanding in a fun and supportive way. Outside of academics, I enjoy surfing, cooking, working out, and playing badminton. I am also an international student who grew up in the dead center of India, which explains my love for surfing and appreciation towards having a beach 20 mins away. Whether you're tackling tricky math problems or coding challenges, I'm always up for it! Join my sessions for an engaging way to master Calculus. In my sessions, I like to simplify complex concepts by breaking them down into smaller, easy-to-understand examples.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
Math 151
Hey, my name is Duane Gennaro, I am a new SI leader for Math 150. I was born in Uganda, but then was adopted and moved to San Diego at a very young age. For a lot of my early childhood, my family went back and forth between Africa and San Diego. I am currently a freshman studying computer science. I chose to become an SI leader because in high school I was a TA for a math class. I really loved helping students and finding new ways to explain the same thing; and it deepened my understanding of that topic. On top of that, I am a firm believer in the statement that all students should be offered as many angles as possible on each topic. Not only does this reinforce the knowledge, but also helps give students the ability to help those around them. A benefit for me that comes out of this, is deepening my knowledge of these topics. I'm also a firm believer that the next step after learning a material is either using it or teaching it. Those are two very effective ways to actually see how well you know something, while at the same time filling those gaps you didn’t even know existed. One interesting fact about me is that I played football for four years. People don’t really expect this because they don't think that CS majors are cut out for the football field.
Math 252
Hi, my name is Armando Zerpa, and I am the SI Leader for MATH 252. This is my second semester in the SI Program, and I feel like I’ve got the routine down now. I’m a second-year Math Education major, and I plan to earn my graduate degree so I can teach college-level math at a community college or university. In my sessions,
Outside of SI, I work at Chick-fil-A as a delivery driver and front-of-house team member. I’m also a member of EOP and a Reality Changers alumnus. I try to stay active in my community, and this semester, I’m in the process of joining EOP’s RISE program to help inspire youth to pursue higher education. This summer, I’ll be studying the history of mathematics abroad in Italy, and I’m really excited for this opportunity. I hope that all of these experiences will help me grow as a student and as a person.
I joined SI to see if education was the path I wanted to take, and after these past two semesters, I feel like I made the right choice. This program has allowed me to revisit material that strengthens my understanding of calculus, which I can apply to my upper-division courses. It’s also given me the opportunity to help students fill in gaps in their knowledge from lectures. I’m looking forward to guiding students through this course this semester and hopefully in many more to come!
Phys 195
Hello, my name is Ayvan. I am from Los Angeles. I am a 2nd year electrical engineering major. I spend most of my time in AER(Aztec Electric Racing) or rock climbing (if I have time). Come to my sessions they are fun, awesome, and you will learn a lot!
Hello everyone, I am from Rowland Heights in LA County, and I am a third year student majoring in Computer Science. This is my fifth semester being an SI Leader with experience of doing both PHYS 195 and MATH 151. I became an SI Leader for this course because it is a challenging course that many students need to take. An interesting fact about me is that I changed my major from aerospace engineering because I toured the Coronado Base and realized that I wouldn’t enjoy the field as much as the fields relating to computer science.
Psy 101
HI! My name is Lily Kecskes and I am a junior psychology major. I plan on getting my MA from SDSU in psychology so I can pursue a Ph.D. in Neuropsychology. I am from San Diego, CA and I love trying new restaurants (especially ramen) and cooking fun experimental recipes with my roommate. I have been an SI leader for 2 years and I love getting to know new people every semester. SI allows me to exercise my leadership skills and build experience with management and critical thinking.
Hi, my name is Ashlyn McKnight! I am a senior majoring in Psychology with a minor in Interdisciplinary Studies. I have lived in San Diego all of my life, and I don’t ever plan on leaving. This is my fifth semester as an SI Leader and I’m looking forward to meeting some of you this semester at my sessions.
I became an SI Leader because I really enjoyed PSY 101 and I wanted to help other students succeed in the course. I even regularly went to SI Sessions while I was taking the course, inspiring me to join the program as well.
Outside of SI, I have done work as a volunteer crisis counselor for Crisis Text Line and am a member of the organization Active Minds here on campus. One of my favorite things to do when I have free time is read, so if you have any book recommendations I would love to hear them. I’m excited for this semester and I hope to see you in a session soon!
Hi! My name is Tonantzin Murillo, and I am an SI Leader for Psych 101. This is my first semester as a part of the SI Team which I am very excited for. I took Psy 101 with Dr. Laumakis last semester, and I thought it was my most interesting class. I am a first-year Political Science major on the pre-med track. Even though my goal is to be an oncologist, I declared as a polisci major because I find it interesting. In addition to being an SI Leader, I am in the Weber Honors College. I am also involved in Ballet Folklorico Xochipilli, a ballet folklorico club here at SDSU. I am actually local to San Diego and I love it so much that I never plan to leave. I look forward to meeting more of you at my sessions.
Hi my name is Jake Tepper-DeCarlo! I am a second-year student at SDSU majoring in Psychology, and minoring in Political Science. I’m originally from New Jersey, but after coming to San Diego I don't think I’ll ever go back. I decided to become an SI Leader because I had a great experience taking PSY 101 with Dr. Laumakis. His class even influenced my decision to major in Psychology. It would be awesome to support others in having a similar experience or even just making the subject a bit more exciting.
Outside of the classroom I’m a member of a few clubs and organizations, as well as a volunteer down at the San Diego VA. In my free time I love traveling, hiking, surfing, and working out with friends. I plan on applying to medical school one day, but in the meantime, I’m excited to take classes in subjects that are interesting to me!
