General Studies 480: Engaged Citizenship and Social Responsibility
Dr. Megan Welsh is thrilled to be teaching a section of General Studies 480 in both Fall 2020 and Spring 2021. In this class, students will have the opportunity to learn about the criminalization of homelessness in San Diego, and to work alongside community agencies and people who have experienced homelessness to conduct research on this important topic.
Dr. Welsh is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice and Public Administration in SDSU’s School of Public Affairs. She holds a doctorate in Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and the CUNY Graduate Center, and bachelor and master degrees in Social Work from UC Berkeley and Temple University, respectively. Her current research includes projects on: the health and sanitation needs of people experiencing homelessness; community member perceptions of homelessness and homeless-serving facilities in San Diego; and police officers’ understandings of race and place.
